For patients that require only a small amount of contouring, a mini tummy tuck may be the ideal procedure for achieving a flat, smooth stomach.
A full tummy tuck includes removing excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen and tightening the muscles of the abdominal wall. A mini tummy tuck is normally used when tightening the abdominal muscles is not necessary. A mini tummy tuck results in less scarring than a full tummy tuck; it also requires less surgery and has a shorter recovery time. It is not a substitute for a full tummy tuck, however.
With a mini tummy tuck, the incision is much shorter and the navel may not be moved. In a mini tummy tuck, the skin is separated only between the incision line and the navel. This skin flap is stretched down, the excess is removed, and the flap is stitched back into place.
A mini tummy tuck usually takes one to two hours.
A mini tummy tuck produces excellent results for abdominoplasty patients with excess skin. In most cases, the results are long lasting if you follow a balanced diet and exercise regularly.
