Advances in Tummy Tuck Abdominoplasty Plastic Cosmetic Surgery

The Plastic Surgery Clinic became the first surgical clinic in North America to use a new skin closure system called Prineo. The Plastic Surgery Clinic in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada was chosen by manufacturer Johnson and Johnson to debut the use of Prineo in Canada. Prineo has only recently been approved for use in Canada and is not yet available in the United States. This makes the use of Prineo at the Plastic Surgery Clinic, the first regular use of this product in North America.

Prineo is a skin closure system which is used for closure of skin incisions without sutures. The system involves the use of specially designed tape and glue which are applied to incisions at the completion of the operation. Prineo replaces sutures which would normally be used for skin closure. The use of Prineo greatly reduces the length of surgery because it is faster than suturing most incisions. This means that patient safety is improved by shortening the length of surgery. Most importantly however is the finding that incisions closed with Prineo heal better and look better than incisions closed with stitches. Incisions closed with Prineo give a better cosmetic result than those closed with the usual sutures.

At The Plastic Surgery Clinic we used Prineo on patients undergoing cosmetic tummy-tuck abdominoplasty plastic surgery. A tummy tuck leaves a bikini line scar just above the pubic hairline, in the area covered by underwear. A tummy tuck gives a flat tummy in patients who have lose skin from weight loss or in women who have lost the shape of their tummy from childbirth. This operation gives a great improvement to the shape of the abdomen. The only tell tale sign is a scar left in the bikini line from the incision above the pubis. When Prineo was used for these incisions, they were closed in a fraction of the time normally required to suture the wounds. More importantly however , the use of Prineo will greatly improve the appearance of these scars when compared to conventional suturing techniques. This means better results for our patients.

The Plastic Surgery Clinic was chosen by Johnson and Johnson, the manufacturer of Prineo, to debut the use of this product in North America.
