Cosmetic Breast Augmentation Does Not Increase Breast Cancer Incidence

World Disease Weekly

Researchers at Laval University in Quebec conducted a study focused on breast cancer rates for women who had undergone breast augmentation. 15,893 women who had non-breast augmentation procedures participated in the study, along with 24,558 who had bilateral cosmetic breast augmentation.

The study found that 676 of women who received breast implants developed cancer, compared to an expected cancer rate of 899. In addition, the rate of cancer for women who received the implants was roughly on par with the cancer rate for women participating in the study that had undergone other cosmetic procedures. Researchers involved in the study concluded that women who undergo breast implant procedures do not increase their risk of cancer.

Dr. Lista's POV on:

Cosmetic Breast Augmentation Does Not Increase Breast Cancer Incidence

This and many other studies demonstrate conclusively that there is no association between breast implants and breast cancer. Another well known study reveals that there is no difference in survival between groups of women with or without implants who develop breast cancer.
