Most Liposuction Patients Happy with Results: Study

According to a survey published in the journal, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery , 80 percent of liposuction patients surveyed were happy with the outcome of the procedure. In addition, 80 percent said they would have the procedure again, and 86 percent would recommend it to family or friends.

The researchers, led by Dr. George Broughton II, surveyed 209 patients who had liposuction done by surgeons at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Liposuction is the most popular cosmetic procedure performed in the United States .

Despite the high rate of satisfaction, the survey found that 20 percent were either "unsatisfied" or "very unsatisfied," although this did not seem to stem from body fat returning. Because there was some dissatisfaction with the outcomes, the researchers raised the question of whether liposuction candidates should be screened for poor self-esteem and body image, so as to find those who have "unrealistic or hidden" expectations.
