Dr. Lista on the Otoplasty Procedure
Ear surgery performed by a qualified, experienced Toronto plastic surgeons like Dr. Lista or Dr. Ahmad rarely results in major complications. As with any operation, however, there are risks associated with surgery and specific complications are associated with this procedure. Please keep in mind that at The Plastic Surgery Clinic, we will fix any problem or treat any complication for free. If you have an unsatisfactory result and we think additional surgery will help solve the issue, we will perform the surgery for free.
A small percentage of Toronto / Mississauga otoplasty patients may develop a blood clot on the ear, which may dissolve naturally or may need to be drawn out with a needle. Occasionally, patients develop a cartilage infection, which can result in scarring. Such infections can usually be treated with antibiotics; occasionally surgery is required to drain the infected area. In rare cases a deep suture (a surgical seam) may come undone allowing the ear to pop back out, meaning that the operation may need to be repeated.
