In recent years lip fillers have become increasingly popular whether to give your lips a fuller appearance, correct asymmetries, to produce a smoother texture, or even to give them a little upturn or lift. Whatever reason you might be interested in lip fillers, at The Plastic Surgery Clinic and MD Beauty Clinic, our expert injectors and plastic surgeons are well versed in the research and techniques that will give you the most natural and attractive result.
At PSC and MD Beauty Clinic we use hyaluronic acid based fillers for the lips. Hyaluronic acid is a natural occurring substance in the body and its main function is to retain water. As we age we lose moisture in our skin, causing some areas of the lips and face to deflate or to look thinner and dryer. Hyaluronic acid refills that lost moisture but it also works to attract moisture to the surface of your skin. This is what gives your lips a renewed fullness as well as a smoother texture, and a more youthful appearance overall.
We have various hyaluronic acid products that we use, depending on your goals. Some people are looking for more volume in the lips, whereas others are looking to soften fine lines around the mouth; we’ll use the product that will best suit your needs. Our goal is always to provide a natural and soft look.
Although, hyaluronic acid fillers are temporary – because they are a natural occurring substance in the body they are eventually metabolized by your body – we find them to be the safest and most effective type of lip filler, with the extra added advantage that if there’s a complication or if you’re not happy with your look we can immediately dissolve your filler with a product called hyaluronidase.

The lips are an extremely important and sensitive feature on the face, so it’s really important to have the most experienced injectors administering your lip fillers. During your consultation you and your provider will discuss your goals and your injector will let you know how they will proceed with the treatment. They will also take a medical history and it may be recommended that you discontinue taking certain medication prior and post treatment in order to minimize bruising.
Lip filler treatment takes anywhere between 30 and 60 minutes. There is no downtime. You might experience some swelling or bruising and tenderness at the site of injections immediately following your treatment, but this should subside within a few days.
In order to make sure you are totally comfortable during your treatment, your injector will apply a topical anesthetic. They will then carefully inject the filler with a very fine needle (or cannula) in the designated areas.
Many patients see immediate results following their lip filler treatment, but we recommend waiting a week to see the full effects of the treatment, once any swelling or bruising has subsided.
This patient wanted to try lip fillers for the first time with the goal of achieving a really natural look. Here’s how we approached her treatment using one syringe of filler.
Lip fillers cost $650/syringe with a nurse $750/syringe with an MD. We typically recommend anywhere from 1-2 syringes per treatment. We also offer a mini-plump for $450/syringe (0.6mL) with a nurse and $500/syringe (0.6mL) with an MD.
Depending on how quickly your body metabolizes hyaluronic acid, lip fillers can last anywhere from 6-12 months.
